Augusto Pinochet was a Chilean politician.
His Highlights/Legacy
He was dictator of Chile from 1973 to 1990, as well as Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Army from 1973 to 1998. He also served as President of the Government Junta of his country from 1973 to 1981.
During his time in Chile's government, almost 3,000 people were killed, 80,000 people were interned and more than 30,000 people were tortured. At the time of his death (2006), almost 300 criminal charges were pending against him for many human rights violations.
His Personal Life
He was married to Lucía Hiriart and they had 5 children together.
