Cricket Career
Smith had always been an avid cricketer, playing the sport while in college. In South Africa, he was the captain of the Johannesburg English XI team, leading them to victory in his first Test match. Later in his acting career, Smith founded the Hollywood Cricket Club, which was made up of English and American players.
Acting Career
Smith got his start in acting during stage productions. In the 1920s, he starred in several British films such as “The Bump” before heading to Hollywood, where he appeared in many films, including “The Four Feathers”, “And Then There Were None”, and “Little Women.”
Death
He passed away in 1948 from pneumonia. His wife and daughter survived him.
Honors
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Smith was also knighted in 1944 by King George VI.
