About Arthur Rubinstein
Arthur Rubinstein left a legacy as one of the world’s all-time greatest pianists. He was four years old when he gained recognition as a child prodigy, having gained acknowledgement from Joseph Joachim, the Hungarian violinist who heard him play at that age.
He had his debut public performance at just 13 years old with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra and would go on to perform for the next eight decades. He rose to international fame for his interpretation of great composers such as Chopin.
Family Life
He was the last of the seven children of Izaak Rubinstein and Felicja Blima Fajga Heiman. He married a Polish ballerina named Nela Mlynarski at age 45. The marriage produced five children, one of whom died as an infant. The others included actor John Rubinstein and photographer Eva Rubinstein.
Death
He died at 95 years old in his sleep on December 20, 1982.
