About Arthur Penn
Golden Globe Award nominee Arthur Hiller Penn was an American film director and producer. Penn rose to fame for directing numerous hit shows such as "The Chase" in 1996 and the crime film "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1967.
Early years
The director started his years living in a Russian Jewish Household. He enlisted and was drafted in 1943 to fight for the United States as an infantryman during World War II till 1946. He returned with a budding love for film, which he nurtured and explored to its full potential.
Career
Penn produced his first movie in 1958 called "The Left-Handed Gun". The recognition it gathered urged him on to direct and produce more interesting films such as the 1965 Golden Venice Lion nominated movie “Mickey One" and other movies like "The Missouri Breaks" in 1976 and “Dead of Winter" in 1987. The director also explored television and has amazing shows such as "Golden Boy" in 1964 and "Monday After the Miracle" in 1982 under his belt.
Personal Life
Penn married Peggy Maurer from 1955 to 2010. He died in 2010 from congestive Heart failure and was survived by 2 children.
Awards
The director received several honorary accolades, including a Tony Award, an Honorary Golden Bear and an Akira Kurosawa Award, which was give to him by the San Francisco International Film Festival.
