About Antonio Fargas
Antonio Juan Fargas is a popular American actor recognized for his performance as Huggy Bear in the famous 1970s TV series “Starsky & Hutch”.
Early Career
Antonio was the son of Mildred (née Bailey), his mother, and Manuel Fargas his father. The couple had a total of 11 children. Antonio and his siblings grew up in New York’s Spanish Harlem.
He studied at the Fashion Industries High School in Manhattan, where he graduated in 1965.
Career
Fargas has had many decades of experience in film and television. He also ventured into the production of live theatrical performances. Some of his famous works include his role in the comedy film Putney Swope (1969), which was directed and written by Robert Downey Sr.
The 1970s saw him being cast in a number of Blaxploitation movies, including “Across 110th Street” (1972) and “Foxy Brown” (1974). In the latter, which was directed and written by Jack Hill, Fargas was handed the role of Link Brown.
Between 2006 and 2009, he appeared in more than 20 episodes “Everybody Hates Chris”, a TV sitcom that was co-created by American comedian and filmmaker Chris Rock and filmmaker Ali LeRoi.
Other notable series that Antonio Fargas has featured in are: “Black Lightning”, “Miami Vice”, and “MacGyver”.
Starsky & Hutch
His most recognizable role was his performance as Huggy Bear in the popular television series “Starsky and Hutch” during the 1970s. Created by American filmmaker William Blinn, the series saw Fargas star alongside David Soul and Bernie Hamilton.
Personal Life
His first marriage, to Taylor Hastie, lasted from 1979 to 1988. A year later, the star of “Starsky and Hutch” tied the knot with Sandra Reed.
