About Anthony Minghella
Following his drama studies at the University of Hull, British filmmaker Anthony Minghella got his start as a director. In 1978, he made his feature film directorial debut with “A Little Like Drowning”. In the 1980s, he moved into television work, serving as a script editor for the BBC and scriptwriter for ITV. His best-known works include the films “The English Patient”, “The Talented Mr. Ripley”, “The Reader” and “Cold Mountain”.
Family Life
His mother, Gloria Alberta Arcari was of Italian descent and his father, Edoardo Minghella was an Italian immigrant. He was the brother of charity executive and solicitor Loretta Minghella and screenwriter/producer, Dominic Minghella. He had one daughter from his first marriage to Yvonne Miller and a son, Max who is an actor, from his second marriage to choreographer Carolyn Choa.
Achievements
He was the recipient of two BAFTA Awards, one Academy Award and one Giles Cooper Award.
Death
He died from a hemorrhage on March 18, 2008, a week after an operation he underwent to remove a tonsil and neck cancer resulted in a haemorrhage.
