Born Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, but professionally known as Ani DiFranco, she is an American singer and songwriter. She has over 20 albums to her credits and is a relevant figure in the folk-rock and alternative rock genres of music. She also released all her albums through her record label, Righteous Babe.
Achievements
As of 2020, she was a two-time Grammy Award-winning artist. She has also won several awards, including the Gibson Guitar Awards, BMI Cable Award, and the Woodie Guthrie Award.
In addition, she is an honorary recipient of many lifetime achievement awards such as Winnipeg Folk Festival Artistic Achievement Award, A2IM Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Achievement for Global Activism Award from A Global Friendship, and National Organization of Women, Woman of Courage Award.
Personal Life
She publicly declared her sexual preference as bisexual during her twenties. She married sound engineer Andrew Gilchrist in 1998. However, they divorced in 2003. She has described herself as a non-religious person and an atheist at large. As of 2021, she was still a resident of Bywater, New Orleans, where she moved in 2008.
