About Andy Irons
Andy Irons is an internationally-acclaimed American surfer who made his name in the sport after winning the World Surf League three years in a row, starting from 2002. Irons started his career in his native Hawaii, alongside his brother, Bruce, whom he competed with on many occasions.
Throughout his career, he won the Quiksilver Pro France title three times, and was named the ultimate winner of the Rip Curl Pro Search competition on two occasions. In 2010, he came out victorious in the Billabong Pro Tahiti competition.
Family
In 2007, he tied the knot with Lyndie Dupuis, and three years later she gave birth to their only child Andy Axel Irons.
Death
Many reports have suggested that he suffered from a cardiac arrest which caused his death in 2010. However, the autopsy report further hinted that his death was as a result of drug overdose.
Honors
In 2008, he was inducted into Huntington Beach’s Surfing Walk of Fame.
Facts
He inspired the 2018 “Andy Irons: Kissed by God” and 2005’s “Blue Horizon” films.
He was also known for his long-standing rivalry with Kelly Slater.
Irons, whose full name was Philip Andrew Irons, is the first surfer to win at least one title at every center on the ASP calendar.
