About Amanda Blake
Shortly after Amanda Blake was signed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, she made her debut in her first film, “Stars In My Crown” in 1950.
She was also in the popular musical drama film, “A Star Is Born” alongside James Mason and Judy Garland in 1954.
Blake appeared in about 17 other films throughout the 1950s before she chose to focus on television work.
She is remembered best for her most famous role as Kitty Russell in the television Western drama series, “Gunsmoke” for 19 years (1955-1974).
Family Life
She was the daughter of a banker named Jesse Neill and his wife, Louise Puckett. Her birth name was Beverly Louise Neill. She was married four times. Her third husband, Frank Gilbert, was also her animal welfare partner.
Achievements
She was honored with the American Cancer Society’s “Courage Award” in 1984.
Death
She died on 16 August 1989 of liver failure.
