About Almanzo Wilder
Before his marriage to renowned American writer Laura Ingalls Wilder, Almanzo Wilder worked as a farmer. The couple began their relationship in 1882 when Laura was around 15 and Almanzo was 25 years old. After three years of courting, they became married couples in 1885.
He was the subject of some of his wife’s books including “Farmer Boy” and the “Little House” series.
Family
His parents, Angeline Day and James Wilder, were both farmers. Some of his siblings were named Eliza Jane, Alice, and Laura Ann. He and Laura had a child called Rose Wilder Lane who would also follow in the footsteps of her mother.
Fun Facts
In the “Little House on the Prairie” television series, his character was played by Canadian-American actor Dean Butler.
It has been speculated that his ancestors might have participated in the American Crusades.
