About Alessandro Scarlatti
Pietro Gaspare Alessandro Scarlatti, often called Alessandro Scarlatti, was one of the most distinguished Italian composers of the “Neapolitan School of Opera.” He was also a highly revered Baroque composer, noted for his exceptional chamber cantatas and operas.
Background & Early Influencers
At age 12, Scarlatti was sent to Rome, Italy, where he studied under Bernardo Pasquini and Giacomo Carrissimi. In addition, his early compositions were greatly influenced by the works of Giovanni Legrenzi and Antonio Stradella.

In 1679, he released “Gli equivoci nel sembiante,” an opera that won the heart of “Queen Christina of Sweden.” The Queen then took him under her protection until 1684. He also wrote “L’honesta negli amori” for her.
He served as Naples royal services’ “maestro di Capella” from 1684 to 1702, during which he wrote over 40 operas for the circle and court, including the classic “Gli equivoci in amore.” He was also Cardinal Pietro's “maestro di capella” in Rome in the early 1700s.
