About Alastair Sim
The Scottish actor began acting in his thirties and worked very hard to become one of Britain's best stars and art educationists of his era.
Education
While studying chemistry in University of Edinburgh in 1918, he left to train and serve in World War I. He chose not to continue his studies after the end of the war. Instead, he underwent training in poetry and elocution to secure teaching jobs, and even won a gold medal for recitation at Edinburgh Music Festival.

Between 1922 and 1930, Sim taught elocution at a college in Dalry and became a lecturer at his former university. Also, he partnered with his wife to promote young and upcoming artists.

From the 1940s, he directed and starred in many films including “Mr Bolfry”. He was cast in the 1951 British Christmas fantasy drama film “Scrooge”, which became one of his most memorable on-screen performances.
