The former Houston Astros catcher gained public attention when he got behind the plates for three-no hitters. During his career, he ranked 23rd all-time among major league catchers.
Childhood & Education
Born in 1951 in Long Beach, California, he attended the San Pedro High School. He was chosen by the Cleveland Indians in round 3 of the June 1969 draft and enrolled at the Harbor Junior College during the off-season of his minor league career.
Professional Baseball
In 1973, he debuted at the majors with the Cleveland Indians and they lost 5-4 to the Detroit Tigers. Five years later, he joined the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1977 season. He played in 124 games, hit .261 and made 2 home runs.
He later teamed up with the Houston Astros for the 1979 season and in the first season played 108 games batting. 202 with 2 HR. 1987 saw the best season in his career, appearing in 125 games, hitting .288 with 14HR.
Broadcasting
After his retirement, he got into broadcasting and became sports director and presenter for the Houston-based KIAH (Channel 39.)
