About Al Hirt
Al Hirt was a famous American trumpeter known for releasing the recordings “Java” in January, 1964. The song, which climbed to no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, sold several millions of copies, making it one one of his best- sold tracks.
Personal Life and Education
He was born to Alois Hirt and Linda Guepet. He studied at Jesuit High School and also went to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
Career Highlight
He started playing the trumpet in a junior police band with his friend at the age of 16. He, together with Pete Fountain, performed at a local horse racing track. He also performed with some major bandleaders such as Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Ina Ray Hutton.
The sounds he produced from his trumpet attracted the attention of a number of record labels but he chose to have a deal with RCA Victor. Most of his famous songs were produced under the label including “Al’s Place”, “The Silence” and his albums “Honey in the Horn and Cotton Candy” were among the top ten best -selling albums in 1964. He produced about thirty albums, including “Horn A-Plenty”, “Our Man in New Orleans”, “Beauty and the Beard” and “He’s the King and His Band”. The latter was his first album released in 1961.

He established his club and held performances there.
Al Hirt worked with other record labels such as Southland, Coral and Verve.
Achievements
He won a Grammy Award in 1964. Hirt also received Golden Discs for his albums “Honey in the Horn” and “Java”.
Death
He died of liver failure on 27th April, 1999 and was survived by his wife and children.
