Aimee Semple McPherson adopted the Pentecostalism faith in 1907 during a revival hosted by her future husband Robert James Semple.
The Canadian evangelist gained global recognition during the 1920s and 30s. In 1923, she founded The Foursquare Church. She was best known for her healing crusades and teachings.
Private Life
Her original name was Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy. She was the daughter of James Morgan Kennedy and Mildred Ona Pearce. She was married to Robert Semple until his death in 1910. They had a daughter called Roberta Star Semple.
In 1912, she got married to Harold Stewart McPherson with whom she had a son named Rolf Potter Kennedy McPherson. The couple separated in 1921. Ten years later, she tied the knot with a gentleman called David Hutton, but they both went their separate ways in 1934.
Kidnapping
In 1928, it was reported that the renowned evangelist had disappeared. She was last seen at the Venice Beach in California where she had gone to swim. After five weeks, she appeared in Mexico and explained that she was kidnapped.
Many news outlets were of the opinion that she fabricated the story to cover up a romantic affair she had with her lover.
Trivia
Though she was not into politics, she supported Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Herbert Hoover.
