About Adolphe Thiers
Adolphe Thiers is one of the iconic figures in the history of France. He played a huge role in both the 1830 July Revolution, and the French Revolution which happened in 1848. Following the country’s defeat in the Franco-Prussian War, Thiers was appointed as the new government’s chief executive.
In 1836, he was selected as France’s Foreign Affairs Minister. Four years later, he became the Prime Minister of the country. When the Paris Commune took over in 1871, Thiers was elected as the President of France. His greatest achievement was to chase out the German army from the French region two years before the scheduled time.
Other Works
The French statesman began his career as a journalist. His first work was with the Le Constitutionnel newspaper which was one of the country’s most influential newspapers at that time. During his time at the organization, he wrote on a number of subjects including history and politics.
In his later years, Thiers established himself as one of the most prominent historians in the country. During his career, he wrote extensively on the French Revolution. His other work titled “Histoire du Consulat et de l'Empire” was about the Napoleon Bonaparte-led administration.
Family
He was the grandson of renowned attorney Louis-Charles Thiers. He was raised by his mother after his dad, Louis Thiers, abandoned them at an early age. The politician married Elise Dosne in 1833.
Honors
Thiers became a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1837. He was later made a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece of Spain in 1871. Four years later, he joined the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a Foreign Honorary Member.
